The Oxymoron of Life

Complications:
It's funny how when we're little kids everything seems so black and white. There's good guys and there's bad guys. When they fight, the good guys always win. There's wrong things, and there's right things. Yet, when we get older and start digging around for truth, we often find that it's just not as black and white as it seems. Things are just more complicated.

It seems that sometimes the real "bad" guys in life, really aren't all that evil. They are often simply responding to pressures on them from others to perform a certain way. Mean and "rough around the edges" people are often times the most wounded and caring people you'll ever meet. They're simply responding (incorrectly) to the ways people have hurt them in life. But with a little discernment, "undeserved" kindness, and patience shown to them, they suddenly don't seem so bad.

Then you find out the good guys aren't always that good. Sometimes they lie, they cheat, other times they only do good so others will see, and many are super nice when you see them in the social setting but become an entirely different monster at home. It makes you wonder, are there any "good" people left?

Then there's politics. When I was young, it seemed so easy. Nowadays, I wonder if anyone in politics knows what they're doing. So many decisions they make are for short-term political and popularity gain. Long term decisions and plans are often times ignored or underdeveloped in order to get the quick, popular things through before re-elections.

Studying economics was a bit of an eye-opener to me. I learned that everything is theory. All of the decisions that are made (including the recent multi-trillion dollar government expenditures) are all done in hope that it might work. No one really knows. Unfortunately, economical theory isn't something that can be easily tested and proved. There's so many variables, so many other little things that we don't even think about that contribute to what goes on.

Simplicity:
Every morning the sun rises; and every time I see it, it's beautiful. That same sun has risen for thousands of years, always on time. The beautiful hands that made it also made me. The strong arms that put the earth into rotation around the sun also hold me and keep me safe at night.

Because of His love, life can be simple.

Jesus said, "Love God, and love each other." Everything else falls into place after that.
