Lunch with God

Imagine you have some how set up a "lunch date" with God. You've gone to meet him and you are now sitting across the table from him. You're in a place where nobody can really hear your conversation; so you don't have to worry about eavesdroppers. You can be as open and honest as you want, or as upset or angry as you want.

What would you say to him? What would you ask him? Take a moment to think of some specific questions or ideas that you would want to run by him.

When sharing your concerns, ideas, etc with him, how would he respond to you? What do you think his overall impression of you and what you say would be?
Would he be...
Upset?
Disappointed?
Happy?
Excited?
Annoyed?
Patient?
Something different?

Now, I'm not asking you what reaction you should be thinking of (or how your pastor says God would react, or how you think the Bible says he would react). I'm asking how, down inside your heart, how you really think he would react to you.

Do you think that he would do most of the talking, or would you do most of the talking?

There obviously is no right or wrong answer to any of the questions above. What I am getting at though is that this is a way you can do a check as to your own perception of God.

If you feel as though God is angry with you, is there a specific reason? Is there something in your life causing you guilt or shame?

Whatever you feel, I would encourage you to talk to God about it. Try to get to know him better. Go on walks and "invite" him along. Talk to him about what's going on; and don't forget to take a few minutes to listen as well.

As hard as it can be to have a relationship with a great, big, invisible God, he will make himself known to those who earnestly seek him. Most of us don't have a burning bush experience, but if we "practice his presence" daily, we can learn to walk a little closer to him.
